The Morgan Horse - a horse of childhood dreams

If I hadn't vacationed in MI and found my QH gelding, Oberon, this is the Morgan horse I would have bought for my girls.  He is still for sale and most likely further along in his training.  He was green when we rode him, but so gentle, so sweet.  I have linked him HERE and he is also on dreamhorse come.  His asking price is $4,500.00 obo.   I considered keeping Oberon for myself and buying this guy for my girls, but made the hard choice of wanting a taller horse and a part Friesian for myself.

Below is an 1888 drawing of a Morgan horse - I'd say the above fellow is true to type...

from "Dunton's Spirit of the Turf", September 15, 1888 issue
I fell in love with the Morgan horse reading Marguerite Henry's "Justin Morgan Had a Horse", and enjoyed many other books written by her as well.  Another series of horse books I loved were "Billy and Blaze".  C.W. Anderson's illustrations still enthrall me.

Another series of horse books I loved were "Billy and Blaze". What horse books did you love as a child?

I love 'your' Morgan Margaret! He's lovely.

My fave books... I devoured anything horsey, but my favourites were from England. The Pullein-Thompson sisters wrote some amazing books. I remember The Prize Pony, Pony Patrol and similar.

Morgans really are beautiful. Margarite Henry was our favorite along with all the Billy and Blaze books. OMG, we even went to Chincoteague for the roundup and have a letter from Margarite Henry. It was so much fun. One our of many adventures with the girls when they were younger we will never forget. My horsey girls loved her books.

He is a handsome fellow.
I read every Marguerite Henry book I could get my hands on, and all the CW Anderson books; especially loved the one on Man 'O War. Also, every book on the Black Stallion, and Fury. Will James, and Enid Blyton.(Blighton?)

Given my experience with my Morgan, I have to say they are wonderful. The breed can be very "forward" so that should be a consideration.

I've ridden a few Morgans in my day and they were all fabulous. Very sturdy, very well minded, and could do it all!

He a beautiful horse. Hope he finds a loving home.

I think as a child I read every horse book there was. Hard to pick a favorite. But My Friend Flicka comes to mind.

What a beautiful Morgan! I loved those Blaze books when I was a kid and all the Black Stallion books of course. I think my very favorite horse book was King of the Wind.
