Hmm looks like the horse does like it but think of the smell, I guess white vinegar doesn’t smell as bad. I have had two problems in the past first one was Murphy had dandruff which can be quite common in young stock, we used baby shampoo and that worked well.
The other problem I had was when we bought Pip he had lice but we got a product from the tack shop and that worked, all this said the vinegar looks like a great idea and I would love to give it a go sometime. Regards Edward
I make a homemade fly spray with vinegar, Avon Skin So Soft, and eucalyptus oil...works well. The SSS gives it a nice smell. Hmmm...I'll have to try the vinegar spray with the hose!
Oh yes! This past summer when my OTTB was suffering from bug bites and breaking out in hives; I would do a cup of white vinegar in a HUGE bucket of water, and sponge bath it on. It was GREAT and immediately eased the puff of his hives.
I used to use vinegar in a spray bottle as a temporary (evaporated too quick) fly spray when I would run out of the regular stuff. My horses hated the smell of it, but we may not have diluted it enough. I never thought to try it with the hose. I'll have to see if I can find one of those soakers for cheap because that would make bath time in general a lot quicker and easier. :) Thanks for sharing!
I've had good luck with Listerine, although I can see how vinegar would work as well. Eqyss medicated spray/shampoo is also good.

Makes sense to me. I always like a natural and inexpensive solution whenever possible.

ReplyDeleteI'm going to try this once it's warm enough again. It looks so easy!
ReplyDeleteI've rinsed my own hair with vinegar. The smell goes away as soon as it's dry.
Can't go wrong with vinegar. I use it on everything--it works miracles.
